Most local authorities are no longer in a position to offer a ‘Rolls Royce’ service. They have to be selective in their service planning with the focus increasingly on statutory, high priority functions. The level of business support across the country has been criticised by many organisations, including business organisations, for it is becoming increasingly patchy and inconsistent. ‘Low risk’ businesses may now fall outside of the scope of regulatory services and so it is possible that these businesses can receive little or no attention, until something goes wrong.
We share the vision of the Local Government Association and Better Regulation Delivery Office and we will be working with regulators providing practical support to businesses and working hard to tackle barriers to business growth, creating the right conditions in which businesses can thrive. This will be achieved through a business friendly system rewarding responsible businesses and promoting reputable businesses to communities resulting in consumers feeling better protected.
We will work with businesses small and large and campaign for those that need support and those that don’t have any time during their busy working days to explore every opportunity to ensure they benefit
from these opportunities.
